Jeff Tower Memorial Scholarship Fund Formed by Hemet High School Band Alumni

In memory of the late Hemet High School (HHS) band leader and teacher, Jeff Tower who passed away on July 4, 2017, the newly formed Hemet High School Band Alumni (HHSBA) has established a scholarship fund. It helps fund seniors from HHS who have been accepted to a two or four year college for a degree in music performance or music education.

Supported by donations from students, alumni, and families of the HHS Band program from 1977-2007, the fund provides an annual scholarship to a local HHS school graduate. "We are highly motivated to provide assistance to young musicians as a reflection and continuation of the late Jeff Tower's life work" shared Erin Gemar, current chair of the HHSBA. “It is an opportunity for the students and our Hemet community to publicly say thank you for all we gained during his 30 years of teaching and for the dedication, energy, and passion Tower shared with all of us during that time. As a growing group of alumni, we are reuniting to turn a sad goodbye into one more impactful era of his legacy.”

The Jeff Tower Memorial Fund (JTMF) awarded its 1st scholarship in Spring 2019.

HHS Band Alumni enjoyed participating in the year-end ceremonies for the classes of 2019 and 2020 and awarding a total of $2000 to HHS students planning to study music performance or music education in college. Unfortunately, the JTMS Board did not receive complete applications for review during the spring of 2021. JTMS will continue to be available to HHS music students graduating in 2022.
